CoLP is a community based model of care, which aims to improve the delivery of mental health care to black people. It proposes to do so by introducing a new tier of mental health worker, that is, Community Health Workers (CHW), whose task will be to connect black communities with health care (statutory and local) systems. They will belong to their local communities, be aware of the informal health support systems already available in the black community and will establish functional links between these and the formal health care service.
